What does a
chaplain do?

Now more than ever, the role of chaplains in sport is vital. Sports chaplaincy is a unique opportunity for Christians to serve the community and make a positive impact in the lives of people that may have never had any spiritual support.

Sports chaplains invest in their clubs and communities in many ways:

  • Practical, spiritual and emotional care
  • Home and hospital visitation
  • Grief, loss, and bereavement care
  • Incident response support
  • Referral support

What makes a good sports chaplain?

SCA chaplains are caring and authentic Christian people who are:

  • Accredited and trained in emotionally and spiritually supporting individuals.
  • Active in their local church.
  • Respectful towards the cultural, religious, and social backgrounds of the community where they serve.
  • Compassionate and empathetic in all situations.

Having a chaplain provides invaluable support for both me and the individual players.

Josh Moore, Rye Football Netball Club

I believe chaplains are much-needed resources in our game. I think a lot of clubs don’t even realise the value they bring.

Craig Bellamy – Melbourne Storm Coach, NRL

The professional, caring attitude of the sports chaplains helped ease the pain of our loss somewhat, and guided us through some difficult times.
